Stumpy in a Box

The rebuild on the SID did not hold up, so I stripped the bike for a full rebuild. Makes sense to me, what are you looking at? This is the current state of my M2, very compact and easy to store, does not handle quite as well as it used to.

The LBS is getting a full rebuild kit for the SID w/ bushings. I think this rebuild should hold up, we’ll see… I am also upgrading to a 9 speed cassette (SRAM PG-990, because it has a red lock ring), new shifter pods (used XT 9 speed), seat post (Thomson, black), new cables (cheap generic) and other stuff I am forgetting. My $1 swap-meet Trek bottle cage broke as well, guess I’ll have to scour ebay for a new one.

I tried to justify an ’06 SID World Cup, but it was 17.5x more expensive than the rebuild kit. Maybe next time. For general info on forks and rebuild procedures checkout angryasian.com.

Ride Log Update

Backbone Photo

Total distance (March): 247.45 miles
Total time (March): 22 hours, 29 minutes

I was able to ride eighteen days in March. The weather ranged from the low 20s to the mid 70s (°F), and from slightly windy to very windy. I did not keep track of how many days it rained, but I don’t think the trails were completely dry on any of my rides; I only had to deal with ice/snow on a few days in early March.

In other news: I rebuilt SID XC on my M2. Luckily, nothing seemed to be broken, bent, or otherwise in need of replacement. It holds pressure, the shock oil has yet to leak out and it does not clunk or rattle anymore.

Update: The SID started bleeding a few days after the rebuild. I think some of the seals need to be replaced…

Update 2: I attempted the 19.2 mile route again last Friday. I took off four minutes from the last attempt and increased my aveage speed by 1 MPH.
